I’m using a child theme of GDF Modern, but I don’t think this is a theme issue.

A notice in red appeared in Geodirectory > Design, next to the checkbox for “Set geodirectory home page as your home.”:

This setting has been depreciated and will be removed in the next version, instead please set the GD home page in GD>Permalinks and then set this page to the front page under Settings>Reading>Front Page

So, even though it did not instruct me to do so, I figured this meant I needed to create a page called “Home.” So I did, and then followed the instructions in the red notice.

Also in WP Settings > Reading, set posts page to “Blog.” The page called “Blog” is set to use the “Blog Page” page template.

This worked previously, by the way. But now, the blog page shows what should be on the home page. It does not show latest posts.

    What gives?

    Hi,

the only error is having the posts page set to blog page. That is not necessary.

The home page was created by GD already, it wasn’t necessary to create another one.

If this isn’t helping, please provide a url and admin credentials and we will check your settings.

    Thanks

Ok, thank you for your reply.

I did not see a home page in the list of available pages either under Dashboard > Pages or in Settings > Reading in the dropdown select for setting the home page. That’s why I created one manually.

Unsetting the Posts Page actually fixed this. Weird I think; shouldn’t this conform to normal WordPress behavior?

Actually whether it’s normal or not, I’d like to understand how this is handled with regard to WP template hierarchy (or if there are overrides in GD for template usage). I assume the Blog Page Template is using something like page-blog.php rather than index.php, and whatever page is set to home in Settings > Reading is actually using index.php? Is that right? I want to understand so I can avoid screwing it up again.

    Thank you!
