Categories and Subcategories

    Hello,

    I have read a lot about this topic here and it seems to be important to many user, so I am surprised that nothing has been done by you yet. I would like to create a main category “Veterinarians” and use as subcategories “Doctor for Horses”, “Doctor for Dogs” etc. When selecting the category during a new listing, only the subcategory should be available for selection and not the main category. The number of listings should also be listed separately without the main category being taken into account.
    At the front end of the single listing, in section categories, between 2 categories always is “And” can this be delated and put a , or – ?

    If you do not want people to be able to select “Veterinarians”, then why use the category?
    You could create a Custom Post Type called “Veterinarians” if you do not want users to have the option to choose “Veterinarians” as a category?
    The way the categories work is the result of trying to make the system work the way most users wanted it. You can make your own customization if you like.

    Well yes and no. Its the same if I do a listing for cars. it will be cars>brand>model or if main category is nightlife sub will be Bars, nightclub, Discotheke, live Music and so on. and because the selection of a category is not as select first the main category then the second then the 3rd. all are under one list to select. so no hierarchy selection. I also have seen that in no of your demos are subcategories but this is one of the main pillows of a listing directory ( its my opinion)

    I hear what you are saying, but, at least 5 people in same number of months have asked to make sure the parent category is always selected when a child is selected.

    As Guust stated, we try to make sure that the features of the plugin work for members AND are flexible enough to be used in different ways.

    Would it help if you could make some categories ‘unselectable’ on the add listing page? Or is that just a part of the issue?
