Hi I am looking to restructure the categories as I am using far too many ad its slowing the site down.

Can anyone share a category taxonomy with me that would be suitable for a town / small geographical region?

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your post. Not sure what you mean by this. Could you share your Website URL here and tell us a little bit more about your issues?

The 8 listed on the home page look good. Are those the parent categories? Using a smaller number of parents is a good strategy. Listings in the child categories will still show up on the archive of the parent, and in search (coming soon).

I would like to add ‘Taxis’ to this block but I can’t, with the current functionality, without re-organising the cat structure.

This is another reason why I am looking for a tried and tested cat structure to adopt. It will be a big job for me to move all existing listing into a new cat structure.

And I appreciate that category taxonomies are a can of worms so I would prefer not to have to make my own as this will be a big undertaking without having to design the cat structure also.

If you are looking for more flexibility for a category navigation structure, I think that is a different issue. You can always build a custom navigation with a builder.

Taxonomy is important, for sure, but tags can get you far, too. A simpler category structure with more tags might be an alternative.

A parent and 10 children for each parent is a good limit to work with.
