You can change places to Suppliers at GD > custom post types (but do not change the post type)

You can change the text of the enquiry form in the GD core plugin language file: http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/translate-core/

    Not sure what you mean.
But the thumbnails are created by picking the first image of the listing, and then set the height depending on whether you have 2 or 3 or 4 in a row.
It then centers the image, so if the image is very long, it will cut the ends off, if the image is very short, it will add whitespace either side.

    Is that what you meant?

Yeah i see, i suspect then that there is a document or instructions for image sizes to get the best visual display?

I assumed that the system would size the images to fit

It resizes them to fit to the height.
If it would re-size both the height and the width to fit then images like this would look very strange:

There is no documentation for that because that is not changeable, unless you want to custom code it.

Ok thanks although i would say that fitting to width would make more sense based on the dimensions of your thumbnails and image gallery

To get the best possible image display you should upload images in the 600w x 400h format.

We use the original image as css background with the

    background-size: cover

attribute to fit images of different sizes in an identical space.

The problem is that you are uploading banners and it will be impossible to make it fit in a rectangle.

    Thx
