I was just wondering if there is a way to make this work, I would like registered members perhaps of the website to be able to link themselves with various communities/business listings on geodirectory.
I know there is now in Beta V2 the ability to link custom post types to other post types, so perhaps If I create a new custom post type called Volunteers or members then a community listing may be able to link volunteers/members to that community.

The only other thing I can think of would be if there was a way to make geodirectory work much like http://www.workaway.info where volunteers can search for communities to volunteer at and communities can search for volunteers.

Any suggestions on making my website work the best in this way would be welcome 🙂

    Thanks

Using the V2 Custom Post Types, you could create a new custom post type called “Member” and set it up to link to or from places or other CPTs as needed.

Thanks that’s cool, seems to work quite well for adding members or founders of a community/place but not so good for working with Jobs but maybe I can come up with something for that.

    Thanks a lot

    Well, I would make:

Places – the place where the volunteer job IS
Jobs – the job itself, linked to the place

I would allow the users to make places and jobs, linking jobs to their own places, then make a form so that site visitors could send in a contact form on each job listing, and use GDV2 with ninja forms to include a link to the member profile.

Then I would use UsersWP to add custom fields to the profile so the Place owner or job listing mangaer could see the users’s profile, but assume that contact info would be in the form, not the profile.

I might then add a listing type

Experience – so workers who have done a job could make a report about their Experience working at a place.

Thanks a lot for this by the way, you seem to know what your talking about here, Ive yet to impliment anything but I will let you know when I do and how it goes in regard to member profile do you think I could make this work well with Buddypress ? as this will be my main social system for the overall website community.

    Thanks loads

We do not often recommend third party plugins. We provide Buddypress integration through an addon.

I do say we recommend UsersWP, though, because we make it and we support it.

UsersWP has ‘friends’ and other community features plus it is really designed to work alongside GD, whereas BP serves ‘many masters’.
