Hello. I have tested this twice in deleting a CPT and it crashed the site when I did. Thank goodness for backups.

Site http://whatshappeningtoday.com. Hopefully I can restore it a second time.

    How did you delete them?
Did you delete a default CPT like places or events?
Deleting a non-default CPT should be no problem.

CPT > table > Delete Column > “delete row cpt item”

The second back restore went well. I am “leaving” it alone for now. I created the new one.

I am performing a rather substantial import this evening and will back it up when completed.

I did not try to delete Events or Places

Just thought you would want to know.

Ok, popping back in to edit reply…
I just went to “default map settings” and the “bar” cpt was check as the default. I do not know if this was the problem or not. I have deleted “bar” as default on map and will try to delete it as a cpt at a later point in time.

You mean you delete them in the database? That will be why.
The correct way to delete is at GD > Custom Post Types in the admin area.
Just deleting something in the database does not delete all the relevant connections between all the tables in the database, you have to do it in the admin area.
