Display as multi-select drop-down or filter?

We’re finding the way the neighborhood search currently works (displaying in the ‘near’ box) difficult to use and it doesn’t 100% meet the needs of our users who want to be able to easily select multiple neighborhoods they’d like to see results returned for.

We were wondering if it’s possible for the neighborhoods to be displayed in any of these three ways below?

1) Display the neighborhoods as a multi-select drop-down in the main search bar. Something like this, but multi-select so they can select more than one:

DC —-
Neighborhood 1
Neighborhood 2
Neighborhood 3
VA —–
Neighborhood 1

etc

2) Display the neighborhoods in the advanced filters options, as options with checkboxes, just like the other filter criteria?
