    Hello,

After attempting an upload, I receive the following error:

“Not a valid CSV file” – even though this was exported from Google Sheets.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

    Max

    Please see https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/#not-a-valid-csv-file

    Thanks

PS: we recommend using LibreOffice or OpenOffice to edit CSV files.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, Guust.

So, we have followed your directions: installed the required plugin, and also installed on our machine Office Libre. When we save from OfficeLibre, we get a warning that we may be using improper characters from CSV – and when we upload this CSV to WordPress, it works, but we can a new error that says “post type missing”

Can you please advise on next steps? Thank you!

    Max

    Hi Max Batt,

Thanks for your reply. Could you please zip your CSV file and attach it on your next reply so that we could check this out for you?

    Hello,

neither of these files will import correctly because they are not formatted correctly.

To get the correct format, log in to you site and add a listing or two. Fill in all the fields with representative data.

Then go and export the listings. That will give you a CSV file with the correct format.

Using Open or Libre office, merge your data into that file, being careful to preserver column headers and the order of the columns.

Thank you, and to confirm this line you wrote:

1.)…you mean, using custom fields, correct?

2.) Is there a place I can create these custom fields globally, so they *always* appear on a new “place” – I am asking because we will likely have hundreds of entires, and it would be great that, for new entries, these fields are just automatically seen on the backend rather than having to recreate all the custom fields (for each new entry).

    Thanks!

Custom fields are per CPT. Instructions are here:
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/places/custom/

When you add the field it will then show on the add listing page so you can fill it in.

    Thank you Alex,

I am looking to add the fields to the *backend* so that an admin can see and use these fields. In other words places > add new, this is where I would need the fields to show up.

I tried the instructions you shared, but it it does not add the fields to the backend, only something called the “place listing form”

    Thanks!

    Hello,

when you add a field, it will show in the backend editor form and the frontend editor form.

If that isn’t working for you, please share site credentials in a private reply and we will check it out.

Be sure to include more information like which CPT you are working with and which field is causing an issue.

    Thanks

You have renamed the title to “Program Name”, so in the backend that is still the Title field.
On the frontend “Title” is changed to “Program Name”.
