    Hi,
I would like to change the workflow of the search autocomplete. I have autocompelte turned on to suggest categories.

Here is the current workflow: Text is typed eg “plumb”,the category plumber is suggested, user clicks Plumber, search is then triggerd and resuts displayed.

Here is what i want to change: I want the user to be able to click on the suggested category in autocomplete without the search being triggered. This way the user can click on the autocompleted category, type in their location and press enter or search.

The current process does not give the user the opportunity to enter their location which results in unrelevent listings displaying. The largest Directory in AU used the process im hoping to have http://www.yellowpages.com.au

    I hope you can help

    Thank you
    Atoz Team

    Hello,

Autocomplete in the search for field provides ‘quick links’ directly to categories and listings.

If you want users to submit a search with a category filter consider adding a category dropdown to the search bar.

    Hi Alex,

I have 400 categories so that doesn’t work well for the user. Is there anyway of achieving the customisation I want?

    Thanks

It is not possible to change the autocomplete functionality into a search filter without a significant customization.

I can understand what you mean, though, with having 400 categories.

I have asked the developers to consider your ticket and case as they may have other ideas for workarounds.

Thanks Alex! One last question, are you able to suggest a 3rd party search plugin to use for GD? The goal is to have a natural search within the directory like Googles Search (e.g.Plumbers in Sydney). I understand there would be significant customisation involved and perhaps the requirement to use GDExperts like yourself.

Looking forward to your search plugin suggestion.

    Thanks
    Josh

    Hi Rudi,

Things you asked is not possible without customization. Currently it also searches in a category if keyword searched matches to the category. If you hit search just after typing a category name in search then it will also searches in the category.

Are you able to suggest a 3rd party search plugin to use for GD? The goal is to have a natural search within the directory like Googles Search (e.g.Plumbers in Sydney).

Sorry, currently we don’t have any suggestion for that.

If you do need help then you can find at here: https://geodirectoryexperts.com/

    Kiran
