Hi, gents – Need some quick guidance on allowing readers to search multiple categories – ie; Italian and TAKE-OUT.

The search bar dropdown doesn’t appear to allow multiple categories to be selected at once, and typing both terms in isn’t producing reliable returns.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for your post. You can apply additional search filters as explained here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/design/gd_search/#guide . Is this what you’re looking for?

    Thanks, Kor, I don’t think that’s what I’m after.

I want to be able to select “Italian” and “Take-out” during a search, to find all the Italian places that offer takeout.

    Does the system allow that?

It does not, but a search for those terms should work.

I have added your request for this feature. The developers always consider adding popular requests.

Ok, thanks. At least I know it’s not that I can’t figure it out.

Would a developer be able to make it happen custom?

I have seen it done before, for what that is worth.

Our reticence to add it is that there are a number of ways to do it, they are all somewhat complicated, and none of them is perfect.

If you do undertake this yourself you will want to have a clear idea of what you are looking for.

The implementation I saw showed a ‘tall’ field with 4 checkboxes, and with 4 entries visible.

At the end of the day the implementation might not look much different than adding the field to the search filters. If you haven’t already, you could try that, with GD Search in a wrapper class and target some CSS to alter the search bar with the drawer showing.
