Please forgive me, I’m completely new to Geodirectory and could do with a little help understanding how to get the search feature to function as intended.

I am working on a site that lists specific businesses across the U.K. They all fall under the same category so I don’t need search options to be too advanced in terms of scope.

I need users to be able to search in two ways. 1) By Business Name / Keyword of listing title and 2) Location.

A lot of Geodirectory examples seem to have search set up by default with two fields, ‘what’ and ‘where’. Will the search still work if a user simply wants to search by location? Ideally I want it to seem obvious to users that they don’t need to type in a business name AND a location. They can search with one or the other. An even better solution would be if I could have just one big search box that displays results based on title AND location. So if you type in ‘Business Name’ or ‘London’ the same one will pop up…..but I am guessing this isn’t possible without two separate search fields?

The main query I have is, will the location search look at the location info I have included on the listing and does it look at every part of the address field? For example, if I have a business located in West Sussex as a region….and a user searches for ‘Sussex’ I’m hoping this should be listed?

    Many thanks for the help

Business Name – this is usually the title of the listing.
Keyword – this is usually a category or tag
Location – this is done with the ‘near’ search option

All of these elements are included in the GD “Search for” field, the first of the two fields usually seen on a Geodirectory site.

The regular search does not include the location unless the name of the city etc is included in the title/description/category/tags.

GD Search is explained best here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/

The second “Where” field is referred to as the “Near” search. Near search will catch all parts of an address, yes, but the more data provided the more accurate the results.
