Hide categories from the search text field but still show listings

I have the category dropdown in my search bar and I only want the listings to show in the search text field and not the categories. I dont want to remove the category dropdown from the search as I dont like how the search bar now auto submits when a category is selected from the search text. Our database is all across Canada and if we select a category of Education or Churches for example without being able to select a location as well then there could be several hundred or thousands of results returned for that one category. I really like how when you search for a listing name it will take you directly to the detail profile for that advertiser. Which is why I would like to keep just the listings in that search field.

I found another ticket that allows the near me text in the location field and it hides the In Location options so I am hoping there is a way to do this in the search text field. Thanks
