    Hey there,

We are trying to get the search for “Near Me” to work on mobile. It appears to be pretty clunky as of now. I think most of my users will be on the site on Mobile and will want to view the places near them.

Is there a good way to do this on the home page? I know if a user has near me checked and searches it will show in order of distance. But I want this to be the default page they go to, maybe with the Featured items on top…

    Thanks for you help!

    Jack

    Hi,

the near me page appears only if users give permission to share their location.

You can’t use Google GeoLocation services without user’s approval.

    Thanks

    Thanks,

Is there a way to make it more prevalent on the page? Right now they have to click the location icon and click the “Near Me” box… I would rather there just be a button under search that says “Near Me” and they click it and then filters based on distance.

Does this make sense? Or a page I can link to that pops up and forces them to give permission or not load?

    Thanks,

    Jack

Hi Jack, you can use the Near Me widget (it adds a widget with a button)

Sorry for some perhaps silly questions:

Which is the “Near Me” widget? Is it a GD Widget? I can not find it in the widgets list 🙁

When GD asks the users to give permission to share their location? It only hapenned once in my computer (even after deleting cookies) and never in my cell phone (Windows Phone OS).

    Thanks a lot!

HI Jack, on mobile after you click the Near Me button, it should ask you for the permission to share your location and it should work. try deleting the cache on your mobile browser (or to use it as “incognito”)

@ J.O. it is a GD widget called GD > Near Me, if it isn’t asking for your location, check the settings in Geodirectory / Advanced search

Thanks Simone, but I’ve tried different browsers, different phones, and incognito mode. Any other ideas?

Hi Jack, I tried your websites on both Android and iPhone: when I first open the website, I’m asked to share my location, I will allow it and I’m redirected to Dayton (which I assume it is the closest city from where I am, Italy). If i then click on the Near Me button, I’m redirected to location/me, as expected..with no refresh-loops

    Hi Simone,

I get the same behavior, it takes me to the Dayton city which is OK for me, but when I click “Near” it takes me to location/me and loops, it never finishes loading the page. I’ve tried clearing cache and doing it in incognito mode.

The loop is so bad that it eventually crashed the browser on my phone.

Any other idea of how to re-create this?

On a side note: Could I link someone directly to the /location/me URL without using the widget?

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Hi,

I’ve flagged this for stiofan for the loop problem, I can already tell you that you can’t link directly to the location/me page. It needs authorization from the users before being able to work.

    Thanks
