my homepage contains the searching function as default.
I am not capable of doing any modification.

how can I change the content and layout?

Have a look at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/getting-started/front/

Just add shortcodes or blocks to the page.
A good way to start is to copy the content of the location page.
You can find that content at GD > Settings > Pages > Location page > Edit.
