Hi! My site has two custom post types. One of those types (bands) has about 20 top-level categories. I am trying to find a good way to help the user filter the map view based on those categories. My struggle is that I want a user to initially see all the bands (which would require all boxes to be checked) and then easily focus on just a couple categories (e.g., folk + country). To go from all 20 boxes checked to 2 boxes checked is at minimum annoying to uncheck 18 boxes and at worst truly arduous as the map reloads every single time a box gets checked or unchecked.

I realize that if I had one parent category for all 20 current categories this would solve my problem. However, that would break the “related listing” functionality, which is based on categories and becomes useless if every band shares a single parent category (because then every band is related to every other band).

Any suggestions? thank you very much

    Hi,

Instead of leaving them all checked, go to Design >> Map >> Select category to untick by default on map and select them all.

All unticked = all ticked. So instead of having to uncheck 18, they just have to check 1 or 2.

    Thanks
