    Hello,
I am new to GD. Trying to figure out how the system works. I just tried to add listing to my site from another account of mine. My default location is İzmir/Turkey. In Turkey there are no regions, just cities. So I had to put izmir on both sections on the “set default location” settings. Now I am trying to add a dummy listing by using my home address but it says “Please choose any address of the (İzmir) city only. My home address is definitely in izmir and Google maps always find my address. The locator tries to locate it a few times but then goes to its default location.
Is this because something wrong I made or?

Many thanks in advance for ypur help.

    Hi,

    thanks for testing GeoDirectory.

Can you please provide the address you are trying to enter in a private reply?

I’ll need to test on my side to see what the issue is all about.

    Thanks

p.s. Google Maps report your City this way:

    Country : Turkey
    Region: İzmir
    City : Izmir

So what you did should be correct: https://www.google.com.mx/maps/place/Izmir,+%C4%B0zmir,+Turkey/@38.4173415,26.7995761,10z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x14bbd862a762cacd:0x628cbba1a59ce8fe

    Hi,

ok I tested and Google Maps API return that address as such:

Murat Reis Mahallesi: Konak, Izmir, Turkey

It seems like it is considering the districts of the metropolitan areas as separate cities belonging to the Izmir region.

I’ll ask to Stiofan to check if it is possible to tweak our system to see the metropolitan area as an unique city.

In case this is not possible because of the way Google Maps return their data (we have no control over that), you will have to install the Location Manager add-on or set Konak as the default city.

    We’ll let you know asap.

    Thanks for your patience

    Hello Stiofan,

The city is Izmir. It is in Aegean region but that is not internationally accepted region name actually. So I guess region should also be Izmir as we do not have any other regions.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Hello,

GD works best with regions also, Slovakia does not have proper regions returend by google either but we have a system of setting region by post/zip code, we could apply a similar fix for Turkey if you want, the only hard part is getting the array of zip codes that match the region name, if you know of anything that could help with this please let me know.

    Hello Stiofan,

The city (or province I should say) is İzmir, Buca is a district. There are 30 districts in İzmir.
The post codes I gave you in my previous reply are for those districts.
There are several neighbourhoods in each district which has their own post codes.
    For example:
City of İzmir has a district called Cigli, its post code is 35620
District of Cigli has a neighbourhood called Sasali, its post code is 35621.

Please see this link, it may make more sense than I do.

As soon as I began adding listings on my website, I realized that I can choose districts and even the neighborhoods as the city (maybe it is sth that Google maps set). But in every single time, I needed to try a couple of times to get the correct location on the map. Sometimes I just gave up and set it manually. But that might be a problem when my visitors add their own locations. I must also say that I have the multilocation addon installed.

    Thanks for your help.

P.S. I will install Skype today at my home PC, I am not able to use it at work, sorry.

OK i look forward to talking with you on skype, i still am not sure what is best suited to a city name İzmir or Buca? It sounds like İzmir should be the region and Buca the city?

    Thanks,

    Stiofan
