Hello again,
I’m having issues importing – error: 5 / 10 item(s) could not be added due to blank title/invalid post type/invalid characters used in data.First I created some sample listings, then I exported those. Then I added a few more samples to the CSV file and tried to reimport. I’ve read the documentation and I do not have any missing required fields including the title; the post types are all the same and I used the same info from my exported sample listings; so it seems it must be invalid characters. I used Open Office for this. As best I can tell I do not have any characters in my new listings that weren’t in the older ones. Is there a list of invalid characters somewhere? How can I find out a more specific error?
Along the same lines, I was surprised to see I can’t seem to import listings without the latitude and longitude. I thought my Google API would allow those to be autodetected (or something else magical would happen to fill those in). I get a “Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED”. Based on my reading on your site, it seems I need to get the lat/long elsewhere, is that correct?
February 7, 2019 at 9:06 pm #467698Hi Kendra,
Thanks for your post. Could you send over the CSV file and also a WP admin access here in private reply so that we could troubleshoot this further for you?
As for the “Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED” issue, please make sure that your Google Map API key has all the necessary APIs enabled. Kindly refer to this article.

I am not sure why you’re sending me to that link – it doesn’t have any info about invalid characters in a CSV file and I am not getting the “not a valid csv” error mentioned in that link. The only time I had a problem uploading it was to the support form. Is there some reason why a CSV file is blocked from being added to a support request? See attached screen shot.
When I upload it to import my listings to GD, I got the error described in my initial post “error: 5 / 10 item(s) could not be added due to blank title/invalid post type/invalid characters used in data.”

https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/#recommendedFebruary 8, 2019 at 12:24 am #467739Which columns are out of order? I just exported the current listings again and compared them and they look the same as my importtest file to me.
Yes, I did follow the recommended procedure. The errors I’m describing appeared when I did Step 6 of “Merge A Test Set of 5 Records into the Exported Listings file”
February 8, 2019 at 12:43 am #467740To compare I would need to have the original export, but I am glad to hear you have compared for yourself.
If you remove the original records and only try to import new records, do they all fail, then?
I do not see any other obvious problems with the sheet. All the categories exist? New locations are allowed?
February 8, 2019 at 6:32 pm #467871I figured out the error – it’s the lack of latitude and longitude. (I went cell by cell on a new row changing it from the exported data to my data until I found the errors; then I confirmed by pasting in fake lat/long in my import test and they all imported fine.)
I’m a bit confused what to do now, as your documentation says I can use geocoding by google to complete the lat/long. As I’ve stated before, I have an API with billing connected to this project. I have the proper APIs enabled. The error for geocoding is this: “Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED”.
February 8, 2019 at 6:39 pm #467873About the error, because the map is loading fine, it must be a missing API on the Google project.
To fix, make sure you are logged in to Google cloud, then go to your GD settings and Generate a new api key. Make sure you choose the project that has billing setup properly. -
