    Hi,
Still trying to get GD ‘under the knee’.
I downloaded the sample csv, made my csv file the same heading.
    Populated the csv file
    Empty cells were marked “N”
When I import the listings, it makes all listings “uncategorized”.
It seems I keep missing something, so I need help, please.

    Hi Nico,

Thanks for your post. If you refer to this section of the documentation https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/ , are you using the correct software to edit the CSV file and the method as explained?

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I used the most recent Libre Office and even re-saved as utf8.
Anything else I need to do?

    Hello,

instead of matching the sample CSV, try this:

    1. Add a listing and fill in all fields
    2. Export the listings in that CPT
    3. Merge your data into that CSV (theone that is exported)

The sample is just that, a sample. The column structure for the live data is different because it includes all your fields etc.

Yes that is how I understood it as I came across that info in an answer you provided elsewhere.
Did my own csv before but because it had the same problem I used the example columns with my own info, which is the one I attached.

So you are saying you exported a listing and used that CSV?

    Yes.
    The process was:
exported the default example and expanded nr of columns to include my own column headings.
imported that into GD on the site.
when that gave me the “uncategorized” problem again, I exported the example and used it as is, with my own info (three entries).
still put all three entries into “uncategorized”

I am fairly sure that I have read most (if not all) the posts about the problem but none solved my problem, which is why I am convinced that I am doing something wrong on my side and will repeat that because I am in tunnel-vision now.

    Thanks for the help

    That will not work.

It sounds like you just downloaded the sample instead of adding a listing and then exporting.

What do you mean by ‘example’? The same CSV?

If you export, it should have columns to match every field, you should not need to add any columns to it.

If you are indeed missing columns, add the fields first:

    Sorry, “example” is “sample csv”
I have all the fields correctly as I need it in my business directory.
What I see at this stage is that the sample csv has a column “post_author” which my csv and custom fields settings do not have, but I will redo everything tomorrow my time (CAT) from the start again and come back to you.
