With people increasingly using mobile devices for advertising on my site, I’m getting increasing complaints and comments from users that they are finding it hard to navigate and add/ edit their listings on the mobile version of my directory to the point many are giving up. Having looked into this they are right, things like the logging in box are right at the bottom, and it’s certainly not as clear for the listing details to be added and the process start to finish of registering, adding details and then making payment. The word ‘clunky’ has popped up several times in comments from users! It’s certainly far smoother on the desktop version and i also think a poor mobile version reflects badly on the site itself which is afterall the pinnacle of my business!.

The question is, there is no option to view the desktop version on a mobile device (unless there is a way this can be enabled) but is there a way to a better mobile version such as a plugin, or a way the mobile version can be edited in any way for better user experience?

Specifically you are talking about the edit listing page?

Most modern mobile browsers all the user to request the desktop version.

Which theme are you using? Can you put a login menu link at the top?

Hi Alex, Its Geo 1280 Theme still on V1. I’m looking on my iPhone and there’s no option for the desktop version. Personally i think its older users that are not too tech savvy (such as one lady that was baffled that the t&c opened in a different page on her browser and then couldn’t work out how to get to the listng details page) and i know that would happen regardless but would be good for people to be able to access a desktop version. Just wonder if theres a section on the GD for managing the mobile version of the site in any way? Thanks

That is a child theme for Genesis and should work automatically both on mobile and desktop.
Please post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply if you want us to check your settings.

    Thanks

Thanks, will see if for now just shifting the layout a bit will make it improved and clearer to use!

    Hi Cheryl Johns,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve inspected your Website and everything looked fine to me. Could you tell me what exactly are you trying to change? Perhaps you can share some screenshots?

    Thanks!
