I have an affiliate site where I review pieces of gear such as pocket knives and flashlights.

I want to implement GD for the purpose of creating an archive of the various gear, specifically so users can use the new Compare Add-On.

What’s the best way to go about this to avoid conflicts with SEO keywords, however?

I’m not an SEO guru, but I would think having a Post (standard WordPress post) and a GD_CPT (gd_knife, for example) with the same title, or covering the same topic, would be bad for SEO since they would both target the same keyword.

Should I start moving my reviews from standard WP posts into gd_cpts?

I suggest you create a new GD listing with exactly the same title as the current WP post you have for the item.
The WP post will have a URL like /item-review/, and the GD listing will have a different URL like /knives/item-review.
When you are happy with the new GD listing, set a 301 redirect from the WP post to the GD listing.

    Thanks
