Hi all,
Our client isn’t super-happy with how the advanced search filters – mainly the “near” field – is working on their site. The problem, as has come up in another support ticket or two here, mainly has to do with the fact that many of their listings are quite spread out.
(Australia is a BIG place!)
Unfortunately, opening up the default range to something large (250km, in my case) leads to other issues – since the map centres in the middle of the results, and zooms in and out to take them all in, a lot of users are finding that the map doesn’t really “focus” on the postcode or city they actually searched for.
I have attached a screenshot which shows what I mean. Otherwise, you can visit https://cambridgeweightplan.com.au/find-a-consultant/ to see it in action.
Obviously, it’s tricky to balance all of this out, but I feel that it could be worked around if the field that allows you to select your search range was a little more user-friendly. As it is, most users don’t seem to realise that a slider appears if they click the “compass” button (also screenshotted).
So, my question is: is it possible to customise this extension, so that the slider always appears beside the “location” search box? We would be willing to pay for custom work, if it is particularly difficult to implement – although if that’s the case, it might be best to make those changes to GeoDirectory v2, once it comes out of Beta.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.
Kind regards,
Nathan Dorey
