    Hello,

I’ve been using GD for about a month now and just started inputting some directory listings. I seem to be having an issue with the map and some of the location data.

    1. When I enter postal codes they don’t always save as what I entered. Somehow they change on their own whether I push the set address on map button or not?

    2. May have something to do with point 1, but listings are being displayed on the map in locations different than where they really are.

Would this be resolved if I went to google maps? I read all the info lately on the new pricing and TOS. Would prefer to avoid that option if possible?

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for your post. I’ll try to answer your questions accordingly.

    1. Could you list the steps to replicate this? Share WP admin access if it requires an account on your Website for testing.

    2. Please share the URL of the site in question so we can take a better look at it and if possible, highlight it using screenshots.

    Thanks!

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve checked your Website and I’m not really sure where exactly is the location. But here is how we can troubleshoot this. Could try searching the address using Google Map and compare the results? Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
    1. Set address on map changes data

The location of the pin on that map is determined by Lat Lon coordinates. When you type in the address, GD is sending it out, that address, to the map API and asking “What is the lat lon for this address and the correct address?” When the answer comes back, GD fills in all the fields accordingly and adjusts the map pin placement on the map (based on lat lon).

However, in some specific cases the map API may give what you know to be incorrect information. There is bad data out there. In the case of a single address, there may not be much we can do about it. See this FAQ for more information: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/integrations/google/#osm

If there are a rash of addresses where you think the data is wrong, please send us the addresses in a private reply and we can check it out.

That said, the first step should be to review the settings at:

GeoDirectory – Multilocations – ADD LISTING FORM SETTINGS

Disable Google address autocomplete? – this will stop the zip codes from changing in the times before you press set on map.

There are several options there and a combination will probably help you.

If the placement of the pins is changing the address, and you really don’t want that to happen, then try Disable move map pin from changing address fields

    2. Categories

There should be no problem between listing display on the map and categories. I am not sure what you mean when you say the listing is not displaying correctly, because all the pins seem to be there. Can you be more specific?

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve just corrected the location for you and could you check and see if it’s what you’re looking for?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

the way GeoDirectory works by default is

    Add listing
    Enter address
    Click set on map
    Map marker is automatically moved

When the set on map button is pressed, the address is sent to the map provider for a lat lon lookup, which is used to position the marker on the map.

GeoDirectory itself is not ‘in charge’ f the lat lon data that comes back from the map geolocation API of your choice (OSM or Google). Instead, those services supply the lat lon.

If the lat lon is not exactly as you want, then the map marker must be repositioned manually. By default, when the marker is moved, the address is updated.

If you want to manually reposition the marker without updating the address, then choose the option

GeoDirectory – Multilocations – ADD LISTING FORM SETTINGS – Disable move map pin from changing address fields
