We are exploring GeoDirectory and trying out some features to see if it will be a fit for us.

Our site, http://autisminsights.org/directory/, lists all the schools in NY state.

When the page loads, it shows pins (clustered) for every Place in the state. This is while “Map Auto Zoom?” option is checked (in Theme -> GD Home Top Section).

    1. Is there a way to “Auto Zoom” to a particular city or location? We plan to add even more pins, but don’t want to show everything. We have a default location in the Location Manager add-on.

    2. Why doesn’t this find anything? http://autisminsights.org/directory/location/united-states/ny/binghamton/, yet searching for blank search “near Binghamton, NY” shows all the Binghamton, NY pins? (on the listing page).
2a. Is that the right location URL for a particular region and city?

    3. Is there a way to limit the number of pins that are initially loaded? We are hoping to have over 500,000 locations across the US. How can we prepare for that?

    Hi Clay,

Do you think you can share WP temp admin access to your site so we can check the backend? You can post the details here using the private reply option below.

    Thanks!

    Hi Clay,

Thanks for sharing the credentials. I’ll try to answer your questions accordingly.

#1 Unfortunately, there is currently no way you can “auto zoom” to a particular city or location.

#2 Try using this http://autisminsights.org/directory/places/united-states/ny/binghamton/ and I’m also getting results when I search for “binghamton”

#3 Here’s what you can do here, set the marker cluster to use serverside clustering or limit the default “ticked” categories and only display a few categories on the map.

Thank you for your help : )

We will utilize the /places url instead of /location – that looks like it will work just fine. And server-side clusters and/or default map pins should do nicely as well.

Do you know of a way to get the user’s current location onto the initial google map? If I turn off auto-zoom and set a zoom level (10 or 12), it seems to zoom to the center of all the pins. Unsure if you knew of a way to change the initial map center, especially if it was based on the user’s location.
