Hello – I’m trying to add my first listing and in the console I’m getting this error: “Oops! Something went wrong….. This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details.” I can’t even click in the box to add the address because of the Oops error.

I’ve added an API key, ensured the correct APIs are enabled, added a billing account. I restricted my API http referrer to my domain but also my IP address because my hosting company had my domain pointed to a default “coming soon” (I’ve asked them to remove it to just make my site live in case that was the problem but it hasn’t happened yet). I waited overnight but still not working. I had added a listing before doing this, so i have one in the system with an address. When I load that one on the website, the proper map appears for a split second before switching to the Oops error. I did regenerate the API earlier today because your documentation makes it seem like I should’ve added billing, etc, before adding the API key to my GD dashboard.

    Suggestions?

did you generate the key from within GeoDirectory or you did it on the Google Map Platform?

If the answer is the second option, please try generating the key from within GD.

    Let us know,

    Thanks

A linked billing account is required, yes

I generated it from within GD.
I have the linked billing account.

Please share a link to a page with a map so we can check the console errors, or check it yourself by loading the chrome developer tools. You should see a link to a Google FAQ that explains why the map isn’t functioning.

Double check and make sure the billing information are correct. That’s one thing that would prevent it from working.

Also try to make the API key not restricted to a domain or IP momentarily to check if that setting is correct or not.

Let us know how it goes,

    Thanks

Thank you both. I think it was related to the “coming soon” page, as now that my domain name is finally pointing to my IP address I’m getting different errors.

I can’t add a new place within the dashboard b/c of the Oops error, but when I go to my website, I get a map for Places, and I get a “no records found” for my custom post type listings. So … I think Paolo is probably right about an error with the API restriction settings. I’ll play around a bit more and see what I can figure out, but if this explanation makes it obvious to you what the problem is, let me know!

You have our docs, and we can’t really say more without checking the site.

Just wanted to let you know I got it to work – it seems it was all related to trying to use an IP address instead of the domain name. Once I got the domain pointing at the IP address and changed the WP settings to the domain name, it all started working. Thanks for your advice. I’m super excited about getting my site up now!
