I’ve looked at the source code for my blog posts and there is no meta description, and I would’ve hoped there would be a meta description for SEO purposes.

Here’s an example blog category and blog post:-
http://dev2.norfolkplaces.co.uk/category/we-love-norfolk-life/blog/

http://dev2.norfolkplaces.co.uk/we-love-norfolk-life/blog/dinosaur-adventure-update-splashzone/2015/10/

for that you will need a SEO plugin like Yoast.
