I’ve read through some other posts and seeing what I think is a major flaw in design for how a multilocation geodirectory plugin should handle a number of major cities.

There should be an override feature to assign places to a geo category that I can assign outside of the address functions that are connected to the map coordinates.

For example, if I’m doing a New York City guide to restaurants, I may want Brooklyn and Manhattan both in there. There’s no way to do this properly, without messing up addresses and the automatic lookup functions of the pages, which keep resetting everything if you want to keep map coordinates. Brooklyn and Manhattan are not neighborhoods — and Manhattan isn’t even how an address would be listed (it’s New York for that). I can do Brooklyn and Manhattan separately, but I should not have to.

Then take Los Angeles. If I’m doing the guide for that city, it does not account for the fact that multiple place names (that properly go in the city field) are what make up what we think of as “Los Angeles:” such as Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Malibu, etc. Again, these are not neighborhoods and there is no proper place to put “Los Angeles” for those. Under your system, the region is the U.S. State (California) the city is Santa Monica and the neighborhood function is useless.

Also, take into account regions that are also not laid out strictly by address, such as a wine guide to Sonoma County, for example, which might encompass one winery each in ten smaller cities. To maintain address integrity, Sonoma cannot fit into either the region or city field. No one wants ten separate pages for that for something that is meant to be on one.

So, am I missing something, or is there a way to use the Location pages to group things together the way they are meant to be, and not forced apart? I could imagine this is the same problem people are having in major cities, as well as small town that are next to each other, and the guide they are intending is to have those in one place.

    Thanks.
