Hello, I’m also in a listing theme that has implemented Mapbox and their team say OSM will be much more expensive because you need to host the tiles. I’ve read that the infrastructure has to have some power…I don’t think a godaddy host could be able, but maybe a $100 cloudserver could be enough.
The cost of GM or Mapbox could go to thausands of dollars per month

I would really like your opinion on this one as I consider you guys know a hell of a lot.

my main area is just a medium size country.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for your post. I’d advise that you stick with Google maps and try to meet the requirements stated here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/server-requirements/ . Let us know if it helps.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

it is not necessary to host tiles to use OSM. GD simply makes it possible to use some of the many free baselayers made available.

Hi thank you for your prompt replies,

    Kor,
Yes, Google Maps is the best choice, but can get very expensive. I also use Cloudways for the website, very happy with it 🙂

    Alex,
thank you, your answer made me understand that I should investigate more about maps. Maps can be easily be the biggest cost of a website!

    Best regards
