What do you people think about an option for admins to enable overwrite the adress by dragging the map pin in frontend.

If Admin enable this function in backend, the frontend user will see a checkbox below the adressfield which says:

Override my specified address with returned by google API when i click on set address on map or drag marker

Checkbox is enabled by default. If its disabled, the adress and the pin could be different then.

Hi Roger, I thought that was standard behaviour.
You do not have to specify your address if you don’t want, you can just drag the pin and it will fill in your address.
Just amend the front-end description text in the address field from “Please enter listing address. eg. : 230 Vine Street” to “You can either enter your address and Click to set Address, or you can just drag the marker to the address.”

Let me know if I misunderstood.

I know, but the difference here is the option to disable or enable it in frontend by the user. The option is below the adress field.

If the user is disableing it, the adress wont be overwrite by the dragged pin. Adress and pin location could be different then.

In general this feature can be enabled or disabled in backend, to decide if the user can have this feature in frontend. If this feature will be disabled from admin in backend, the default feature is: “adress overwrite by dragged pin”.

Rog, so I understand correct, you want to be able to show a different printed address than the one on the map, right?
    So what about:

Go to the default address custom field and disable “show in sidebar”.
Then add a textarea custom field that allows users to add any address they like.
That would accomplish what you want?
Except that the infowindow of the map marker still shows the map address.

    Look on my test site:

Good one, but what if you want to mixe it up with the adresses that are good in map and adress field. I have a biergarden page, sometimes the adress is different than the biergardenposition – mostly nonameroads, or in the forrest.

But mostly its in the right place. To use your solution means I disable completely my google api generated adresses.

The other solution is an option for the user to use or not to use it. Also means independend from Google API…

Vikas was considering adding an option to avoid address to be overwritten.

We were undecided on which would be the best way to go.

An admin setting that would rule for all, or a checkbox below the address to allow users to control it.

Please everyone reading this post, let us know your thoughts and we will proceed accordingly.

    Thanks

    Roger,

please do the effort of reading posts if you want to give a contribution…

We were undecided on which would be the best way to go.

    1) An admin setting that would rule for all

    or

    2) a checkbox below the address to allow users to control it.

    +1 to which option???

    Thank you

To keep the submission form as simple as possible, I would prefer it to be an option for the admin.

This is how I would see the user experience:

    1. Just the same as now for starters: enter the address and click on “Set on map”; or drag the marker to set the address
    2. That would create the geolocation – no change there, but this address would not be printed to the detail page
    3. But clicking on “Set on map” would also pre-populate a next set of address fields, and the user would have the option to accept them as pre-populated, or change them as they see fit
    4. They should have the option of deleting the pre-populated address altogether without affecting the marker’s placement.

There also would need to be some changes to the infowindow, because it gets populated now with the marker’s address (street only).
I think the address can just go from the infowindow, but open to what should replace it.

It would be great to give the end user the option to disable the address entirely, both address fields and map coordinates (so, Paolo’s option two above, I guess). The use case, which I just got a note about from one of our users, is virtual online events, where there is no physical address associated with the event.

So a checkbox on the front end with a customizable label that says something like, “This event has no location” or “This is a virtual event”. The checkbox would hide the address fields and map and mark the fields as not required.
