I’m using v2 with Avada theme.

v2 docs would seem to suggest that I can use the page builder to a Details-Page to arrange my content, title, and sidebar as I wish using shortcodes and widgets; and then set geodir to use Details-Page for display: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/page-design/#pages

However it seems that I can only control the content loop of the page. I can’t, for example, remove the sidebar, or change the page template.

Is this so or have a made an error here?

    Thanks

Sorry for the confusion, GeoDirectory is not a theme and does not control the sidebars or the theme templates available for WP Pages (which DO control the sidebars).

You can use the Page options, augmented by your theme, to adjust the page template. That settings controls which/how many sidebars show on the page.

Thanks Alex — you’d think so, right? But everything in my theme is set to “no sidebars” and yet there’s a sidebar, I can’t override the template, and can only control the main loop on the default template.

Have you tried the setting in the attached image?

Functionally it makes a little difference. Eg I’ve set the template to use the 100% width template, which should make it full width. But all we’ve done is remove the sidebar and title.

So it’s change it, but again: only within the default template.

I really hope v2 would be more template agnostic, but it seems this is not the case.

I was hoping to use a page builder to give me:
    – full with featured image carousel, with title
    – main details in left bar
    – meta in right sidebar
and all within the page builder for maximum flexibility and style.

FWIW I’m using Avada, but I think this is a challenge regardless of the theme?

    Is that just not possible?

    Hello,

yes, V2 is much more template agnostic. It sounds like you were able to get rid of the sidebar?

    – full with featured image carousel, with title

What features are missing. The Title of the image? Shown on the image?
Or do you mean you want to use a 3rd party slider?

    – main details in left bar
    – meta in right sidebar

Widgets or blocks or shortcodes with gd_post_meta can show individual fields wherever the theme allows. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/design-elements/#gd_post_meta

    Thanks, Alex 🙂

    I’m getting there I think.

The ability to use an image as a background image would be great but I appreciate it’s hard. I imagine a 3rd party slider would be even harder.

Taking a quick look at search: the default provides a search, map, and a brief loop. How would you recreate this page using shortcodes alone?

    [gd_search]
    [gd_loop_actions]
    [gd_loop]
    [gd_loop_paging]

But.. what of the map on that page?

gd_map set to auto will work for that page.

BTW whilst lots of things were my mistake, the fundamental issue that it’s NOT using the chosen template, either in design > details > template or by selecting on the page itself is a continuing problem.

    Update: https://cl.ly/92335efb4acb

It’s calling the right template in the wrong place for my theme (Avada)

The next GDV2 core release will have an update for template selections. Notes about the effects are here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/page-design/#page-template

Yep, I’m using Fusion Builder, but creating my shortcodes using the default editor then arranging with fusion.

Is there a due date on the next release?

    Thanks, Alex.
