My URLs were getting too long so I changed the permalink structure from /prefix/region/city/category/postname to just /prefix/postname. Is there a way to create a redirect that will drop in the appropriate information using tags so I don’t have to individually redirect each page? Thanks!

    Hi Kathy,

Not really sure what you’ve done without inspecting the backend, but I’d like you to refer to this section of the documentation that explains more about permalinks. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-permalinks/ . Anyway, could you share WP temp admin access so that we can understand a little bit more about the changes that you’ve made?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Google will not change what they indexed in the past, unless you let them know about it.

To let them know you need to setup a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new URL. There are plugins allowing to do so or you can do it in your htaccess file.

If you google how to setup a 301 redirect you’ll find lots of info.

    Thanks

Thank you, yes I do realize that I need to submit 301’s 🙂 I was just hoping I could find what the tag code structure is so I can set up a redirect that will fix them all instead of doing each URL individually.

This is what I found on Yoast to add to the htaccess:
    RedirectMatch 301 ^/dentist/%region%/%city%/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/$ http://www.dentistnearmereviews.com/dentist/$2

Does that look correct? I appreciate your help!

Just give it a try, regex redirects usually takes me a few tries 🙂
