    Hi,

I am trying to import some listings into my site. There are 40 listings in the file and only 27 import after cleaning up the file.

The file was originally an Excel file. I read that we should only use Openoffice because of the formatting errors caused by Excel. I’m now working on the file in OpenOffice and have tried removing all formatting, but some listings still refuse to import.

GeoDirectory seems to be a lot more sensitive to these formatting issues when compared to other directory scripts when it comes to importing data.

What is the best way to “clean” up a file so it will import easily into GD?

    Hi,

please zip the file and attach it here. We can’t provide help without knowing what we are dealing with.

BTW did you read the full docs about GeoDirectory import export CSV file?

    Thanks

I can’t directly see anything wrong.
You should use New York instead of NY etc for the region, but that will not stop things.
I am guessing you already have created the categories you are trying to import to, and the multi-locations addon is activated.
I was able to upload the file without any drama into my test site, after changing categories to match the ones in my site.
We’ll need URL and WP admin details if we need to investigate more.

I just changed NY to New York and it all uploaded just fine.
You will now need to edit your locations to change NY to New York at GD > Multilocations > Manage locations.

Thank you for importing the listings.

But why would I get the errors if we are using the same file? Could it be my PC is doing something to the file?

Like I said “I just changed NY to New York and it all uploaded just fine.”
I also changed the CSV to UTF-8 before uploading. So it could be for both reasons, I doubt your PC has anything to do with it, we were both uploading to the same server.

Guust, I also did a test run using “New York” instead of NY before and got the same errors. It must been have changing the file UTF-8 that made it work. I will test it out in the future. thanks.
