I want to display the link of a place on video trailers and business cards (physical paper). Only, to prevent people from manually typing a very long URL, is it possible to share a link like this: https://domain.com/nameofplace/

    Rather like that : https://domain.com/places/region/city/nameofplace/

I am surprised to see that it works actually!

    If I write : https://domain.com/nameofplace/
Then I am automatically redirected to : https://domain.com/places/region/city/nameofplace/

You will tell me, but what is the problem then?

    My question is:

Can I be 100% sure that these redirects will work for use over time? Is GeoDirectory applying this redirection, or is it the core of WordPress?

Note: this is NOT for SEO purposes.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

That is a proper redirect, yes.

    Thanks for your answer Alex.

Do you confirm that GeoDirectory is doing this redirection?

I ask because I know that WordPress can also perform this type of redirects. But the problem is when a slug is almost identical to another slug, WordPress can redirect on a wrong post.

Yes, that is part of what GD does.
