On a site with 20,000+ posts with multiple custom post types, activating the plugin caused the site to grind to a halt, and eventually the mysql server died. The server is a relatively ordinary 1GB VPS with a the kind of mysql config you get out of the box – but without the GeoDirectory the site works fine. It seems to me the plugin must be making an excessive number of db calls.

    Hi John,

Do you mean you have 20k blog posts or GD posts?
There are too many factors to be able to tell what’s going on in your situation, if you want you can post wp-admin, FTP and DB access details and i’ll take a look or you can add me to skype and we can go over it but you should be aware that running a blog site v running a GD site is a very different thing, GD is a complex programme not a static blog and there for will require more resources.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

Thanks for the reply. 20k prior posts on a mature, fairly complex site, to which we now want to add a directory feature. The GD plugin, although I cannot see it well because the site does not really load with it activated, (though sometimes a page loads after over 1 minute), appears to add a directory feature to each post. Even loading the plugins page to deactivate GD is difficult while it is activated.

The server is good for the site without GD plugin, works OK with the ‘Business Directory’ plugin (which is not what we want), and was good for the old Drupal site including mapping from which the present WP site was migrated. There is nothing in my error log (apart from ‘mysql server not found’ when mysql dies).

You are welcome to login details. It may not be safe to publish FTP and Mysql credentials on a public forum. We have just spent many hours removing malicious software….
