Possible to not have icons on map display until category is selected?

By default on the map it displays icons for the locations for each business. I’ve changed the settings so the categories aren’t automatically selected so that they filter correctly, but regardless, we how all the icons overlap it’s hard to tell what they are, so I’m wondering if there’s a way to not have the icons display by default until one of the categories is selected. I just don’t see any option to that. If I deselect the categories in the settings then they don’t even appear as an option at all, so any suggestions is advised. Thank you!
