Possibly a stupid question about using geodirectory for a dating site.

This may be a daft thing to consider.

I already have geodirectory running a standard directory on my website.

However, this website now needs to feature a dating section. Looking around at wordpress plugins, there’s not many options out there, so I was wondering whether geodirectory can be used for this purpose, but without affecting my existing directory at all.

Basically, I would need to create a new section in the existing directory, for my niche dating page. This would need to be searchable by male/female and area. Obviously I will have to ensure people can only enter a postcode or area into the map section, we don’t want their real address on there!

I also need to block off anyone being able to contact the people who made the listings in this section, unless they have paid a dating subscription fee. Even then, they should only be able to contact through what is now known as ‘send enquiry’.. but I’d really need to change this wording, as it sounds a bit like you’re going to buy a car replying to a prospective new partner by ‘sending an enquiry’! I don’t want this to affect the rest of my directory of course, as otherwise businesses won’t be able to get their enquiries from general people browsing the listings.

Perhaps this is something which can be done, perhaps it is not. Please could someone let me know? Also, if you can think of any other potential issues I’ve not already thought of, please say. I’ve not done a dating site before and I’m just looking for the most functional, secure solution for my members 🙂

    Thanks

Whoops, also forgot, I need to charge people to be able to list on and reply to this section on a monthly membership type basis!

Hello, why not using Buddypress? With some plugin such as “Membership”, “BP Profile search” and “Buddypress Xprofile Custom Fields Type” you should be able to run it fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll take a look at those, but I’m not that clever that I think I’ll know how to fit all this together and get a nice looking section lol. If there were an all in one plugin I could just use that would be ideal.

Plus if by membership you mean WPMU’s membership, I’d rather steer clear of their plugins if possible. I used them before I found Geodirectory and despite trying most of their plugins with my paid membership, I found everything so overly complicated I now don’t even use the plugins I paid for. It took me months and months of trying to figure them out and in the end I just gave up because it seemed like everything needed extra coding and constant badgering of the WPMU staff! :/

    Hi Simone

If I could achieve what I need to with Geodirectory add ons, I would be glad to purchase premium membership again for the purpose of getting it up and running. I’ve never had a problem with Geodirectory, hence wanting to know whether it’s possible to achieve all the features needed to create this dating site section with Geodirectory add ons.

Hello, in your case I personally would look into buddy press and its addon as it is a social plugin, closest to what you need. There isn’t any pre-made package with all the things you want out of the box, so you still need to add third party plugin and configure them accordingly.
