I am looking for a quote on integrating iCal and Google Calendar export functionality into the Events plugin. Ideally it should be as a plugin so the changes to the Events code wont get overridden on updates.

Alternatively be interested in co-funding this Plugin with the author retaining rights to sell plugin on Theme Tailors with me retaining rights to use the plugin at no cost into perpetuity.

Final alternative would be for me to fund this functionality with the developers of GD with a similar arrangement to above.

I can be reached at pleasureprimer(at)gmail(dot)com

    Thanks.

    Hi Mark:

When you say iCal and Google Calendar, they are essentially the same thing… sometimes. Google will import the iCal format without a problem. The only specific Google functionality would be to push it to the user’s calendar as a single event, which isn’t ideal.

Are you looking at publishing a feed, or adding a single event to the user’s calendar?

A user can download a single iCal file, which they would then have to re-add to their calendar each time something changes, or they can have the calendar “subscribe” to the link on the site and automatically get updates.

    Hi Jeff,

    Thanks for the feedback.

What I am looking for is when I click on a date with my iphone on my site Progressive Lawyer it asks if I want to add it to my calendar of my phone. That’s essentially the functionality I am looking for. An easy way for a user to add an event to their smartphone calendar. That site uses a third party events plugin.

    Hi Jeff,

How difficult would it be to implement this:

or they can have the calendar “subscribe” to the link on the site and automatically get updates.

I had a look at this. The event plugin is lacking filters in most places to make this easy.

I built the skeleton in about an hour and then started looking at where to hook in either to place a standard calendar button or link to the file, and there isn’t anything the way it’s built.

Might be a reason nobody has done this.

I’ve got 2 choices (this is me, not you). Figure out where the hooks need to go and either:

    1. Ask the team to implement them and wait, hoping it’s done relatively soon, OR
    2. Implement the hooks myself (and maybe the feature as core) and send the code to the guys for inclusion

    I’m open to either. Thoughts?

Personally I think option 2 would make this happen because this is probably not on their priority list but it is a feature that would definitely enhance the plugin and being part of core removes a lot of issues about a separate plugin, etc.

Much appreciated that you took this time Jeff to work on this. I suppose we will need to see what Stiofan or Paolo thinks. Let me know if you hear anything.

    Happy New Year from Montreal!

I see that Templatic have an export to calendar on their Events plugin. Would it be possible to reverse engineer it?

I am willing to pay 50% to have the code implemented and then made available as core if Stiofan and Paolo would agree.

Mark, this shouldn’t take long to implement. Since the Event Plugin doesn’t have any hooks near this, I’ll implement it and pass the code to Stiofan and Paolo for consideration of integrating into the plugin.

I’m glad this is moving ahead. It seems like quite an obvious thing to do, all things considered. 🙂
