With the new version of GeoDirectory being developed is anything being done to improve the search.

One thing that I keep coming across is people complaining that they can’t find the listings they want because they are searching in places but its in a different CPT. There really should be a universal search option on the drop down box call ‘All’ or something that searches across all CPT’s.

Also have you considered having an elasticsearch plugin. I know its been requested a few times though searching the forum. Obviously it would help with big sites with lots of listings but the big benefit I see is that you would be able to implement word stemming and synonyms lookup, (https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/languages.html)

I’ve had a complaint from one of my featured listings that they’ve tried searching for their listings using ‘self employment’ as the keyword but its not coming up, they show up for ‘self employed’ though. using word stemming etc would solve this problem as well.

    Hi Mathew,

We plan to improve search a lot after GDv2 core is released.
If we did have a “All” search no filters would be able to be used with it.

As for elestic search, its something we have looked at in the past but the cost was always disproportionate to the amount of requests we have received for it. Tags are a way to get around things like “self employment” vs “self employed” at the moment but likely are demand grows we will start looking at it more.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan
