Hi there, I have couple of questions:
1- It seems that in order to search for, let say, a restaurant, in a certain city, I have to use the right most field first (and set it to the city or “near me” and then go to the left most bar and set the “Restaurants” category. This is kind of odd, don’t you think?

2- When I select lets say “restaurants” from the drop down on the left most field, the “Restaurant” category won’t stick to the field and the field shows “Search for” and the search immediately starts without giving me the chance to select distance or City.

3- When I use the “Near:My Location”, My browser (Chrome) always asks to enter my location. Chrome presents me with a map that I have to adjust and hit OK. And sometimes, it does not work. Please note that I heard somewhere on your discussions that I must install a security certificate which I have not yet.

    I appreciate your assistance.

The drop down categories that show the icon are direct links to the category.

You can turn them off in the Advance Search settings

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/advanced-search/#settings

For Near Me, it will allow you to choose by map if the browser geolocation is either denied or as in your case not functional because of the missing SSL.

Thanks Alex, so do I need to set the location or the “Near: My Location” first and then go to the left most field “Search for” in order to limit the search results to Near My Location only?

The reason I ask is that once I pick a category from the drop down, the search engine starts without giving me the chance to enter any thing in the “Near” field.

Let’s assume you don’t choose one of the category autocomplate choices, those dropdown categories. Again, those go directly to the category archive pages, they are not search queries, they are just links.

Instead, in the search for type ‘restaurants’ and then in the near field type ‘a’ and wait for the near me to show, then click on near me. That would launch the browser geolocation if you had ssl and submit a search for restaurants near you.
