I’ve got a fresh and unrestricted Google API key.
When I do a search for a city (non-auto suggest) or zip/postal code, I get the following error:
“Search was not successful for the requested address.”
This is happening on several sites, but works on your demo here:
    https://wpgeo.directory/starter/search/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=oakland&sgeo_lat=37.8043514&sgeo_lon=-122.27116390000003

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,
    John

The demo uses the Google Map APIs, not OSM.
Can you check the password please, so we can log in.
    Thanks

I think that the GeoLocation only works using the Google MAP API, but that key does not have billing added.
I’ll get one of the developers to have a closer look too.
Switching OSM and Google APIs shows the different errors.

    Thanks

That was it. Oddly, using another API from a different site that they own using the same account (which uses the same billing info) and it’s working. Close it for now. Thank you again!

Curious if you think it might be possible at some point to serve OpenStreetMaps for maps but use Google for searches – simultaneously? Currently, the only way I can get things to work is to exclusively use Google – w/ OSM enabled, searches don’t seem to work.

    Hi,

At one time it loads only one API (either Google or OSM) for map & geolocation functionality.

You can load Google API on search page but can’t load both APIs on same page.

    Thanks for the reply.

I’m curious – Is there any way to work around this? For high-volume sites that display populated maps on every page, OSM does a great job and the price is right. But the search and directions don’t seem to work properly with OSM, so far that I can tell, unless I’m doing something wrong.

In a perfect world, we might be able to display live maps with OSM but still search w/ Goog as they do a stellar job.

Google also does a better job w/ lookups on the backend when placing pinpoints and finding streets and businesses.

Again, it’d be great to somehow be able to use both – to take advantage of free while paying for limited use when necessary.

PS. My site is pretty much dead now with only a few thousand visitors per day – but if I was back getting >1MM visitors per month, the google pricing would take a lot of my profits.

    Hi There,

Currently it is not possible to use both APIs same time for different services. We implemented maps/geolocation functionality to use one API at one time.
Loading both APIs at a same time may also affect side speed as it requires to load JavaScript libraries from both Google & OSM.
