What things do I need to be aware of letting users register and sign in to create listings?

What settings do I need to have in place? I know it needs to say anyone can register – but then what setting is needed so they can create posts but not do anything bad – author? or contributor? or?

Could they add malicious code or do anything to the site?

I just had my first person login and I haven’t even finished the site or started promoting it..so I am guessing it’s a spammer. How do I limit or stop them?

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your post. GD plugin itself restricts users from harming your Website. But ofcourse, getting some security plugin activated would benefit a lot more. If you’re getting lots of anonymous signups, I’d recommend getting the “GD Recaptcha” addon installed https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/gd-recaptcha/ . What should the setting for roles be? author? or will contributor give them enough access to create listings?

Subscriber is fine, that is the WP default.
