I use a few different custom map markers for different business categories. It appears that the marker set for the A category overrides all others. In this case, the Activities marker is automatically chosen instead of the Transportation marker, which I’d prefer to use for this client, as that is his main category.

Is there a way to change how this works?

You need to set the Transportation category as default, and the Activities category not as default.
Then the Transportation marker should take priority for that listing (unless you are on the Activities page).

Can I assume that I can do this on a per-client basis?

And if so, can you walk me through how to set that up.

    It is per listing.
When choosing a category for a listing, you should see an option to set the category as default.
(Cannot do screenshots for the moment)

Great. I don’t have this option. Can I set it up myself or do I need to ask my programmer to do it?

    Just FYI

Selecting the default category will only change the URL of the listing to use the default category in the permalink.

We have struggle to find a solution to give priority to a category marker instead of another when a listing is assigned to more than one category, but with Google Maps this is practically impossible.

It will show the marker of the category with the lower ID no matter what we do.

Sorry about it, but it’s really not our fault in this case.

Thanks for that insight, Paolo. That must have been the case when I was testing then, and I drew the wrong conclusion. Sorry Allyson 🙁
