I believe this can be considered a bug.

A user just submitted their first “Enquiry” to a business on our site and on my admin BCC copy I noticed the email was sent to the business’ email address but was addressed to me (“Dear Frank Ferris…”) instead of to the owner, since the business is not claimed and I added the listing information myself, so I am the “author”.

If possible, I think [#to_name#] for Enquiries should use the Author Name only if the listing is claimed, otherwise it should use the listing’s title. I could be wrong, but I assume most GD members are the author to many listings on their own directories so they’d face the same issue.

In the meantime, I’ve replaced “Dear [#to_name#],” with “Dear [#listing_link#],” so that it just always displays the Listing’s title instead of my name (or the names of other users on my directory who have added businesses which they don’t own).

Not urgent since I have a reasonable fix for now, but I think it’s worth checking.

    Thanks!

hmm good spot, though the claim listing is not a default feature so we could not go by that alone, maybe just going by if its an admin user just replace with Dear “User”?

My preference would be “Dear [#Listing_Title#]” for businesses that aren’t claimed (including for sites not using Claims plug-in), because I prefer semi-personalized emails to get the owner’s attention. Even if it’s not an admin user, the author who added the listing doesn’t necessarily correspond with the email address for the business listing, so there would be mis-matched names and emails.

“Dear User” (or “Dear Business Owner”?) would also work fine if you prefer that as default setting. We’d likely keep using “Dear [#listing_link#]” (what we have currently) over something generic like “User” though.

I have changed this to “Business Owner”.

    Thanks,
