For examples, Places is a CPT, so you could go to

Places, Settings, General, Show Advanced, Disable location

Alex’s solution is for V1, I V2 you need the Location Manager activated, then you can go to GD > Settings > Post Types > edit any of the post types > Show advanced > and you will find a new option:

And why would I need to add a map icon, if I do not use a map or a physical location?
Because the icons are not only used as markers on the maps, but also as icons for the categories in widgets etc.

    Hello Alex and Guust,

    I am thoroughly confused now.

Alex, I do not see the option “Disable Location” in the settings of the various CTPs I have. In v1 it wasn´t there either.

Guust, you are talking about Location Manager. Earlier in this thread you mentioned that I needed to add CPT in order to be able to disable physical location. So I do not understand why I need to have Location Manager added now. Is this a v2 thing?

    Thank you for your patience.

Guust as to the map icons, they are really category icons then? And visible, even when not using a map?

Yes, in V2 the option is activated differently.

See image for an example of V2 category icons.

    Guust, thanks for explaining.

    I am with it now.

The v1 documentation is very good, but if things work differently in v2 it becomes a big quest and I feel bad about having to ask for help all the time.

V2 uses a lot of newer WP principles, and I am sure you’ll get the hang of it.
And that is why we are here, to help if you are still stuck after giving a good try 🙂

Thanks Guust. Had Location Manager installed and I was able to do it.

I am very happy with you guys. The support forum is very good and fast. The other day I actually uploaded some PHP code to add schema types and I felt ridiculously proud 😉

    Now truly resolved. 🙂
