From within the account download section, an addon named [Geodir Share Location] is listed. This addon however is not listed in the addon section https://wpgeodirectory.com/addons and there is no forum section either dedicated such an addon.

    What’s this addon?

Hello, this addon will asks for the location when an user visits the website. You surely have seen a popup asking for a location permission. This is needed if you want to automatically sow the closest map based on the location of your users. You can turn it off if you don’t need this feature.

Why not simply set the location in a cookie if the user agrees to share it. Then key off the cookie if it exists.

Unless we are giving real-time walking directions proximity is probably OK.

The cookie could be set to expire immediately in the event “real-time” location is needed, otherwise it could expire in 3 hours or 3 days.

    Thoughts??

The share location add-on has been discountinued as stated in its change log:

Plugin is now retired and should be removed, message added to state this – RETIRED

    I’ll remove it now.

GeoLocation services have been moved into Advance Search Filter add-on and are used following GeoLocation API guidelines.

    Thanks

Perhaps I just posted this to the wrong thread.

The same applies though now that it is included in the core though. There is likely little reason to continuously request the geolocation from the browser if you can set it for the session upon first acknowledgement by the user.

    Thoughts?

    Hi,

in GeoDirectory >> Advance Search, if you enable: “Ask user if they wish to be geolocated” and they say no to the 1st popup, the GeoLocation popup will no longer appear, the answer will be stored in a session that is saved until they close the browser.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

    Thanks Paolo,

But if I say yes on my dev site I’m prompted on every page view thereafter…unless I permanently accept it.

For those who don’t use the drop-down to permanently accept it, this isn’t great for usability.

    Sorry if I wasn’t clear.

But I’m loving this app. I’ve been running directories since 1998 and I’m really happy with what you’ve done.

Got some tweaking and more learning to do to get things precisely how I want them – but so far – well done! 😉

    Hello,

something does not sound right there, it might be a sessions issue. Can you start a new support topic so we can then get you to private reply some details so we can check?

    Thanks,
