In fact, you know what Paulo? Get off my site, revert it to v1 as it was and send me a refund.
I won’t stand for rudeness.
March 4, 2019 at 5:48 pm #472408Hello,
That escalated quickly 🙂
Kiran does not usually work on a saturday, he was doing so to cover a day he had to take off at the start of the week. His last reply was right at the end of his day… He actually tried to reply from home but i seen the unusal login on a sunday and blocked his account :/
Anyway, long story short, i’m the lead dev and i’m happy to run through this update if you want, no one was trying to be rude. If you want help let me know and i’ll proceed, if not we are happy to provide a refund.
Thanks,
Stiofan

Currently I find that speed-wise there is no change to write home about from v1 to v2. I also notice that the plugin Query Monitor is showing more DB heaviness than it was with v1.
I also find that the v2 setup makes a site like mine (with the directory only a part of a bigger site), really difficult to manage, for example in the widgets area, unlike v1 that kept GD widgets separate.
The only way I can envision using v2 is if I switch to a multisite setup where my directories have own subdomain (eg. directory.mysite.com). Questions arise :
– is this a better option for me with GD, given that my site is not just a directory?
– will this possibly speed things up? That’s the most important to me.
– if I switch to a multisite for the directory, will i have to start from scratch and lose all my current listings (still in setup mode but have about 20 listings i’d like to keep).
– i suppose if i switch to a multisite setup, i can then use one of GD’s own templates. Right? The templates seem to be part of the membership fee but I’m somewhat confused with the v1 and v2 documentation structure and want to make sure.
I was really, really happy with v1. Now v2 has completely changed my work structure and made it more complicated. Looking for a solution. Feedback appreciated.
March 5, 2019 at 2:53 pm #472616There seems to be a conflict with your theme and a compatibility change we added in the last version, it seems to be adding some DB queries that are not needed, i’m working on a fix for that now.
Let me try and answer a few of your questions in order first:
1. Locations page:
Yes, simply add any info you want to the page via shortcode builder or blocks.2. CSS:
WP now has its own input for CSS under Appearance>Customiser>Custom CSS3. Listings:
Some texts are hidden on some smaller listing views.
Images, we can’t win 🙂 some curse us no matter what way we show them, we have a task to add this as an option, Stretch to fit or not, it can be done with CSS just now by giving it a height 100% and max-width auto.
You can add any meta data there via the template pages.4. Listings widget:
That might be best as a grid view 2 in the sidebar?5. GD Booster:
Its not that it can’t be used its just that the reason it was built no longer applies so you can use anything, i would recommend replacing it with WP Super Cache.Spliting into a multisite might work for you but it depends, you seem to have a shop plugin and a social network plugin, these are both heavy plugins to have on the same site as a directory if you don’t have the right server specs.
Have a read of this if you haven’t already: https://wpgeodirectory.com/making-your-wordpress-site-slow/Thanks,
Stiofan
March 5, 2019 at 3:20 pm #472620I have read your blog post a few weeks ago.
I even upgraded my cloud hosting to over your recommended RAM.Its also been recommended that instead of multisite, I could think about the multiple theme plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/jonradio-multiple-themes/ which might be able to let me use the GD framework?? What do you think?
I also found a new table in the database :
wpaw_countries
Belongs to: wp-bannerize-pro [not installed]I didn’t put it there. Is it something for GD?
March 5, 2019 at 5:52 pm #472661The theme you use now does not matter in the slightest, thats the point of GDv2..
That country table is added by GDv2.
Thanks,
Stiofan
March 5, 2019 at 6:20 pm #472680So, to be clear, what you’re saying is that v1 had a css framework while v2 does not. Is that right?
On Locations page :
– Categories under each listing not appearing. Only the gd_business CPT.
– I had to hard-css “comments” in the meta data for it to appear! That can’t be right.
– “View All” under each CPT still showed despite unticking in the shortcode builder needed to add : view_all_link=“0”. Cant be right either.
– Still a massive gap between map and search then between search and sidebars. You mentioned finding some incompatibilities. Can you update please? Im worried about getting to work only to lose it later.
Details page problems :
Images on both sidebars disappeared – problem persists.
Check this page https://ohso.red/businesses/australia/victoria-1/clayton-south/fashion/australis/ on right-hand sidebar under “Business Directory”. Its showing wrong categories.dashboard > geodirectory > post types : problem persists
“Nav menu role” plugin disappearing in dashboard>appearance>menus : problem persistsMarch 5, 2019 at 7:45 pm #472725This reply has been marked as private.March 5, 2019 at 9:17 pm #472756This reply has been marked as private.March 5, 2019 at 9:27 pm #472764This reply has been marked as private. -
