Specific Location (Suburb) Search for Business Categories

    Please can you help. We are using Geo Directory v2

    We wish to know how to set up search navigation with two fields –
    First one for the Specific Location (Suburb)
    So the results will populate the next field with categories of business types that are only in that surburb.

    The search results page should only show the businesses that are in that business category and in that selected suburb.

    The customer wants to have the search bar on the home page that sits on top of a background image.

    So what do we need to do to so this? A shortcode or something that can be put into a code block … this would be ideal.

    You will need to use the Location Manager so you can have listings in more than one suburb.
    And with the Advance Search addon, you can add the categories to the search bar too: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/advanced-search/#select

    Please can you be clearer.

    We need a search bar –
    First selection has a dropdown to choose from business categories.
    Second selection to choose a suburb and only show business categories that were selected in the first selection.

    After search button is clicked – should only show the businesses that are in that business category and in that selected suburb.

    As per your suggestion, we have purchased: geodir_advance_search_filters-2.0.0.7

    What else do we need to get this working right and where can I find specific instructions and videos?

    As we are very very confused.

    1. Activate the Advanced Search addon
    2. Go to Places > Settings > Search tab
    3. Click on “Categories” on the left, that will move it to the right
    4. Click to open, and tick “Show in main search bar?” and choose “SELECT”
    5. Save

    That should give you the options as in image 2.

    Hello,

    if you provide a link and WP Admin credentials we can check your settings. I am not sure I understand what the issue is.

    If there is a problem with search results we will need to take a look.

    You didn’t answer my question. What are all the plugins I need to get the advanced search to function correctly. As it only works when I select a category (place), nothing else.

    We are very frustrated that we are not getting a simple straight and complete answer. You need to remember you are familiar with this and we are not.

    We want to create a simple business search. So a business can be listed and found in a few selected suburbs (we select these suburbs with keyword, tags or something)

    Field 1/ Search Business Categories (drop down selection, Painters, Plumbers, Carpenters etc)
    Field 2/ Shows ONLY Suburbs that has Businesses listed in them that are related to the Business Category.

    So people can find a Specific Trade or Service in a chosen suburb.

    Example: So when a person is searching for a Plumber the results will only show Suburbs that has Plumbers in it. So a Plumber can be in multiple suburbs not all.

    Please direct us to a simple step by step instruction or a video.

    If we don’t get a timely and helpful response we will need a refund for both the Location Manager and the Advance Search addons

    The closest solution for you is:

    Create a category field, which is what you have done. A selection from that field will limit the results to any listing that is in that category.

    The Search For field: this will compare the queries added there with the listing titles, description and taxonomies (tags and categories) of the listings.

    The near/location field. That field can only search the addresses assigned to listings. It cannot search tags of the listings.

    That is how the search works.
    If you select plumbers in the category field, and then select a suburb in the location field, the results page will list all plumbers that have that suburb in their address.

    To hide the Search For field use this CSS:

    .gd-search-field-search {display: none}

    We has struggled for too long and you software doesn’t seem do the simple business search require.

    So we have requested a REFUND for $78 for the 2 addons
