    Hi,
I’m back working on a directory that it couldn’t go live last year, a national directory of NGOs limited to one country (Dominican Republic).

The DR administrative divisions are: 1 Country, 9 Regions, 33 Provinces, 156 Cities, but the actual hierarchy of GeoDirectory is “Country-Region-City”.

As I guess it’d be a hard customization to add another hierarchy level (Provinces), I’d like to ask your opinion about this possible solution:

step 1 – add 9 new “countries” using the DR 9 region names,
step 2 – assign the 33 provinces to each correspondent region,
step 3 – click “Add everywhere option in location switcher country drop-down” to show results for the all Country (the 9 regions altogether).

In other words, as the Directory is for 1 Country only: I’d use the Country selector to choose between real regions; the Region selector to choose between provinces; and the City selector for real cities.

    Thanks,
    Gianni

    Ok 😀 I guess that’s not possible 😀

So, another question, trying to find a workaround:
    – How can be shown, at the same time and in the same map, all places from more than 1 region? (for example, from region 1,3,5,6,7,12 – I remember GeoTheme could do that).
It would be ok for me to have this from the DataBase, cause I only need the URLs of those “super-regions” and use them as custom links on the Main Menu… the problem is: I don’t know how to get into the DB 🙁

    Thank you,
    gianni

For your first question, Google seems to use Country – Province – City in DR.
So if you use default country, there is nothing else you would need to do for GD to work.
I might get Stiofan to have a look at your questions as well.

    Hi Guust,
yep, Google doesn’t help, and I guess users will use the “set address on map” button overriding any new “country/region” I’d add to the database. So, disregard that “solution”.

If only I could get a URL that calls all listings from a short list of provinces: the Ministry of Health would love to see a map that shows all Hospitals in the border region with Haiti (7 provinces), or only the north-west border (3 provinces). Then I would set custom links on the menu for that.

The other option I was thinking about is to set 1 Custom Field to make users select 1 out of the 9 regions every time they submit a listing. What I don’t know if I’ll be able to use the result as a URL to put on the menu, or if I have to select the “region” in the advanced search.

    Thank you for your help,
    gianni

I think you should be able to use the resulting search URL to link to search results, using the advanced search filter.
    Something like:
    /?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&spost=&sgeodir_regions%5B%5D=+north-west&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

Once set up, it should become clear what the URL would be.
