Hi y’all. Having installed adv search, my categories auto suggested in the “search” field, which is great! However, choosing one of those categories executes an auto submit which doesn’t give time for user to complete the “near” field. Is there a parameter to turn off auto-submit on auto-suggest results? Would be ideal to turn it off for categories but not actual listings. Thanks!!

You can turn that off, here is a guide to the settings
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/places/categories/#autocomplete

You can also add category as a simple drop down

Thanks Alex. I see in the docs where I can opt to not show cats in the auto-suggest results, but what I’m looking for is to have them suggested, but not automatically execute the form submit when they are clicked. I guess clicking on the auto-suggest is not actually filling and submitting the form, but is instead browsing straight (via href) to the gd-site/category page?

Can auto-suggest behavior be set by parameter in gd_search short code? Your suggestion to use the cat drop-down filter is a good one, but I’m saving that for an advanced search page, i’d like to keep the main search simple.

Related question: is it possible to require that all searches “near” rather than “in?” Thanks!

Unfortunately this setting is not currently available.

I have taken this up as a suggestion and will share it with our development team to see whether we can work on this in the near future.

Please feel free to make a new topic if you need help with anything else.

To make all searches “Near” searches, simply turn off autocomplete for the near field.
