Updating Old Versions of Core and modules

Hi there. I’ve been away from my project for a while and need to update, I’m several versions out of date. Are there any special precautions or methods, other than creation of backups, that I need to use? Can I update directly from older version 1.2.7 to 1.4.5 ?

Just two things, 1st update Core, than update all addons.

Second, before doing anything else, go to GD tools and run the DB convertion tool. That is the only necessary thing needed when moving from 1.2.+ to any version after 1.3
