Verifying emails before allowing to add listing

Currently GD allows users to post a new listing without verifying their emails; they can just register on the site and start adding listings.
Before installing and trying plugins like http://wordpress.org/plugins/pie-register/ I was wondering whether this might be a better idea to be implemented as part of GD rather than as a third party plugin.
